Is your headache
a migraine?
Over 26 million Americans suffer from migraines,
and more than half go undiagnosed. Thankfully,
there has been enormous progress made in the treatment
of headache disorders, especially migraine. New
diagnostic and therapeutic techniques have revolutionized
what were once thought to be frustrating or hopeless
conditions. Neuroscientists have linked migraine
to an imbalance of a brain chemical called serotonin.
These findings have led to targeted research,
resulting in treatments that reduce the severity
and frequency of migraine headaches.
Other types
of headaches
Dr. Pappas and the Neuro Spinal & Headache
Center of Southeast Georgia provide diagnoses
and treatment plans for all types of headaches.
Migraine: Moderate
to severe pain for 4 to 72 hours, inhibiting or
prohibiting activity due to throbbing, intense
pressure aggravated by activity. The two types
are common (without aura) and classic (with aura).
Tension: Mild to
moderate pain lasting for weeks or months, inhibiting,
but not prohibiting, activity due to squeezing,
pressing, aching pain.
Cluster: Severe
pain for 30 minutes to 2 hours, generally in or
around the eye, prohibiting activity due to excruciating,
boring, penetrating pain.
Injury-related:
Symptoms vary depending on the injury.
Sinus: Pain in
forehead and around the eyes. Worse upon awakening
and increased with forward bending.
Tumor: Symptoms
vary depending on location or type. Early diagnosis
and treatment are crucial.
